Ben Carson, Trump's closest rival, is reeling from disclosures he thought would earn him credentials for
honesty. It didn't.
And the story would not go away, no thanks to Mr Trump who on Thursday described Dr Carson as incurable.
"He says he had a pathological violent streak. I mean that is Incurable."
He went one further by dramatising the now famous Carson story. Trump says the victim was just lucky."Ben aimed the dagger at him. Not everybody wears a belt"
And nobody can cure a pathological bad temper".
Ben Carson responded in a guided fashion that "Mr Trump is making these statements because of Dr Carson's growing popularity."
I say guided because anything his opponents say is used against them by Mr Trump.
"Jeb is weak, Casey made a fool of himself at the debates"
Only him can make such statements. In a way, he has a way of coming across that delights the voters who now act like sports fans.
A Net/Gallup polls shows that only Hillary Clinton can get him to keep quiet at a debate.
Which raises the question of whether the Republican Party can ask him to take a walk. All his unorthodox approach has worked. People believe him.
His stand on immigration has not changed. He told CNN "As president, I will send all of them packing"
He has even forced Marco Ruby and Jeb Bush to denounce Washington. giving the party more worries.
For instance, he is most certain to win Iowa and New Hampshire
Even when he was veily described by a British campaign strategist as not a serous enough person to "occupy the most important office on the planet" Mr Trump's ratings just soared
Ben Carson is not exactly beyond redemption. But he has to realise that he is no longer selling books nor is he carving up sedated patients.
Politics require a different vocabulary.
