For the BlackBerry addict, the recent round of phones have satisfied some but due to an unfortunate outage hiccup those left unsatisfied have considered moving to other platforms and some have already made the move. Those loyal to their ‘crackberry’ now have something to flaunt to BlackBerryexpats: Ladies and gentlemen, the BlackBerry P’9981 Smartphone by Porsche Design. This visually stunning smartphone features a stainless steel frame, hand-wrapped leather back cover, sculpted QWERTY keyboard, and a crystal clear touch screen. The P’9981 is basically a more stylish brother to the Bold 9900 with a 1 Ghz processor, 5MP camera, 8 GB of internal memoir and a microSD slot allowing for unto 40GB of additional memory. Now if you’ve already added it to their holiday wishlist here’s the slight bad news. The BlackBerry P’9981 by Porsche Design will be available at Porsche Design stores later this year (we are already approaching November) for the price of $2000 (rumored). Either way, this new entry from BlackBerry is worth a look and potential wait so sticky with Freshness for the latest updates.

The Blackberry Porsche Design P’9981 has just been unveiled in Dubai. This BB device is the most expensive ever built by RIM : 2000 dollars. It has the same specifications as BB Bold 9900 : 2.8-inch touchscreen, 1.2 GHz processor, 720p HD video recording and a 5 megapixel camera. The only difference is that the physical keyboard is carved, its frame is made of forged steel and the back of the phone is made of leather.
This limited edition smartphone will be sold exclusively in Porsche Design stores at the end of this year.
With RIM under severe pressure at the moment, what with its global service outages and much-delayed tablet updates, there was only one logical answer – release a Porsche-designed phone that will cost $2,000.
Yes, the Porsche Design P’9981 is basically a BlackBerry Bold 9900 in a metallic and leather case and with a skinned version of the BlackBerry OS 7. The P’9981 will be only available in a limited number you’ll be sad to hear, so make sure you reserve your handset now before they’re all snapped up.
Like the BlackBerry Bold 9900, the Porsche-designed handset will be powered by a 1.2GHz processor, backed with 768MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It will have a 5 megapixel camera on the rear with a flash, which will be capable of 720p video recording.
The Porsche Design P’9981 will be available later in the year, so that should give you time enough to save up for this must-have handset. Let us know in the comments if, like us, you think this new phone could signal the end of RIM’s problems.
