The indictment came in a joint report by Amnesty International and Centre For Environment, Human Rights and Development. They say the oil giant failed to comply with a 2011 UN recommendation.

The report says that sites that were labelled" visibly contaminated" in 2011 remain the same in 2015 which points to sloppy clean ups rather than new operations.
"By inadequately cleaning up the pollution from its pipe lines and wells,Shell is leaving thousands of women,men and children are exposed to contaminated land, water and air."

Shell however has said the it has complied with the clean up. The area is still polluted ,Shell claims " because of oil theft and illegal refinery"
Shell had agreed to a financial settlement of $84 million for the affected communities in Ogoni Land.
The report also blames the government of Nigeria to properly regulate oil operators leaving the host communities to severe environmental hazards.
