Nigeria: Trading Places.

The parallel between Nigeria government and Hollywood makes  for interesting observation.
In a 1983 comedy that starred Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy, a rich stock broker and a black homeless bum would cross paths and parts when they  become the subject of a bet between two brothers.

The argument in the story is that people don't change .The other brother believes man is the product of his environment. So they bet and swap the men.

Now, In 2014, former British Prime minister ,Tony Blair,was active in an effort to make the APC trade place with the PDP. Then change happened and Mr Blair fled the theatre leaving
the cast, President Buhari and all his elected officials  alone on the dance floor.

The guilty feet, apologies George Michaels, have got  no rhythm.

The new government ,unlike the Eddie Murphy character,is behaving as predicted. That people can't change. Even if change brings them to power.

The former rich man, now in rags, still knows how to carry himself.
As a business man, he would promise very little. Just in case. But the other man is not really used to management,what is more, fellow cast members ignore their roles to applaud the lead actor. So they make promises that the audience is forced by reality interpret as lies.

NIgerians, the unwilling audience,is speechless,unable to laugh or cry as a comedy turns to a hideous tragedy in less than 6 months.

In Hollywood, there is always a happy ending but Nigerians anticipate a denouement that is all but predictable.
They are also not able to leave the theatre
