REPS MEMBERS CALL FOR SUSPENSION OF FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVER

The Federal House of Representatives has just passed a motion asking the FGN to suspend the removal of Fuel Subsidy. The House also set up committees to look into the issue and invite Labour and the executive arm to a public hearing.
All those who tried to speak for the removal were either heckled or shouted down by other members. They include Mulikat Adeola-Akande, PDP, Oyo, who failed in her bid to be speaker of the House;  Yakubu Barde from Kaduna State' Ndudi Elumelu, PDP Delta and Arua Arunsi from Abia.
Those who have spoken against the removal of subsidy include, Eziuche Ubani, PDP, Abia, Femi Gbajabiamila, minority leader, Aminu Suleiman, PDP, Lowarse Herman, PDP, Benue; Sanni Madaki, PDP, Kano, Khadijat Bukar, ANPP, Yobe; Garba Mohammed , minority whip, Ibrahim Rafiu, PDP, Kwara;, and Makinde olarotimi, ACN, Osun.

Though this resolution does not bind the Presidency as such, however it carries both strong political clout as well as being a pointer to the Executive that the 2012 Budget will not be passed by the legislator if the Resolution is not adhered to. Whatever it is a point has been passed to the presidency for him to know that Nigeria as a whole reject the removal of fuel subsidy.
Its now left to the executive to accept or reject this motion, but if I were Mr President I will gradly reverse it while citing legislative motion as the main reason behind the sudden change of mind. By doing so, nobody would view him as a weak president.
One wonder why the reps did not cut their salaries? Why did they also reject a motion to investigate, arrest and prosecute the cabal? Is it because they are members?
They could have as well pass a resolution to reduced the bumber salaries of 45 million a quater they voted for themselves by 70%,  in that case the subsidy will be reinstated.
For me they are seeking cheap popularity while their own status quo remains and their lifestyles are sustained. As far as I am concerned, they did not do anything significant, they only rallied round to save their own skins. I pity the few men of integrity that remain amongst them.

While I have been of the opinion that the Executive should have handled the removal of the subsidy differently, it was criminal and selfish on the part of the Reps to have kept mute about their outrageous salaries and allowances. It is actually the Executive that has allowed these insensitive lot to score political points out of a badly-handled, sensitive issue.
Mr Jonathan needs to recharge/reposition himself and fully and firmly be in control of the steering wheel of the country.
